Yimmiy offers the ultimate mix of index based search (like Bing, Yahoo and Google) and real time search (offered for example by Twitter, Flickr, Youtube etc). Our search engine is API based. This means that we dont crawl the web ourselves, we dont build up our own indexed database and we dont develop our own distinguishing algorithms. We do what we do best and that is to make use of the strengths and functionality offered by a mix of especially selected providers we work with, to offer you the best search results possible today.

We like to keep things simple for our users. 99.92% of all manual searches conducted on the web consist of constructions like [word1 AND word2] or [word1 OR word2] or ["word1 word2"]. It is those three search constructions (operators) that we support:

AND - A search where the result should contain all of the given search terms. The AND operator is supported by all of the providers we work with.
OR - A search where the result should contain one or more of the given search terms.
FIXED - A search where the result should contain the exact phrase that was entered.
DEFAULT - A search where our engine makes use of the default operator settings of the various providers. These (may) differ per provider. For one provider this may be "OR", for the other this may be "AND".

Our result items all have a basic structure:

Title
Description (which may be empty)
Link (or Url)

Clicking on the title will give the same result as clicking on the link: You will be taken to the target page.

Furthermore, all the result items can be expanded by clicking the [+]. When expanded, all items show:

The type of item (image, video, news item etc.)
A link for visiting the items target page through use of an anonymous proxy
A possibility to check the (X)HTML markup of the page against the W3C standards, for excluding possible unnecessary risks.

Depending on the provider and on the content type of the result item, other assets may be shown:

Thumbnail - a clickable thumbnail which will bring you (depending on the provider and content type) to either the result page of the provider or to the video stream/file or image file itself
Translate - Opens the target page through Google Translate
Cache - Opens the target's last crawled and cached version
Image - Opens the item's image file; not the container page
Video - Opens the item's video file or stream; not the container page
User - A name and link to the user who has shared the result item on the internet

We have the opportunity to locally (in the current opened page) track the items you clicked. By default this option is turned on. It can be turned off in the settings section. Turning it on/off will be stored locally in your browser cookies. Your clicked items are not registered anywhere on our servers.

Please note, that all of our search results mention the provider specifically and we will always continue to do so. Whenever it is offered by the API of the provider, we shall always point the links in our search results to the original location given or hosted by the provider and thus we shall generate traffic to the provider's site.
